hi, Chris, yesterday I was looking to your project idea worldtrade ! There are many interesting and important thoughts and I like the possible interactivity with the visitors. I only was thinking of that the interpretation of the worldtradecenter catastrophe as the main subject gets too much weight in a discussion about the actual world wide finance crisis and what are the currently consequences. Could you imagine to include more ideas in your installation in addition to?

Hi Steffi,
my installation “World Trade Airplane” ( www.mennel.net/worldtrade ) can be opened to other input, and I can tell some ideas. If for example someone would feel able to create a movie contrast “black friday 1929″ on the left side, “state of the crisis in January 2009″ on the right side - would be great. The “airplane situation” would be changed then to a “parliament situation”.
Changing the drastical 9/11 situation to a parliament conference, would allow then to fill the environment just with actual pics and movies. So possibilities to lighten the weight of the worldtradecenter´s catastrophe presence are given.
If the whole thing then seems to get too much like a brave try of documentation, someone can join the abstract level. Broken pics and sounds, tricks of speed - all based on 15 seats with 15 buttons that offer to „decide“, all still within this 3-wall-triptychon - you see, Steffi, art offers methods of running away from one point to another, and we could practise them in my installation.
Especially me I like to invest into the dialogue between the provocating „airplane“ element und the currently consequences of the world wide finance crisis. If this mix catches the eye and provocates with forbidden messages - as an artist I won´t avoid that, I´ll try to handle it.

What is the connection between the 9/11 attack and the current financial crisis? Are you saying that global terrorism is the cause of bank de-regulation and unethical subprime lending policies? I’m concerned that using the WTC attack as a focus of an installation will collapse its meaning to shock value.
It seems relevant to mention the Church of Euthanasia’s “I like to watch” video (not safe for work), which is probably the crassest comment on the 9/11 attack to date.
Thanks for the link, Marius. The combinatin of sports, porno and wtc pictures in the video tells a truth. The spoken text “I like to watch” comes to the point. I don´t feel that the meaning in this hardcore comparison collapses.
I prefer making dirty pics instead of nice pics about a dirty situation. The stock market behaves sooo clean and clever, but it is a pig market.
The use of wtc attack in my vision of the “world trade airplane” installation will be much softer than in this video, with respect do its difference to the actual fianncial crashs. I made a list of other “comparable scenes” - 1929, Brechts “Mother Courage”, Titanic - and they don´t fit.
And I won´t focus into wtc - this happens for those who “like to watch”. I will compare. All spoken words and 70 percent of the pictures will act 2008/09.
